Floating Gaia

Accepted in juried show at the Frist in Nashville, The Artist's Voice, May 16th-September 14, 2008

"At the other end of the spectrum are artists like Connie Livingston-Dunn, an art therapist who began to work in digital media after an injury forced her to give up painting. Her digital collage “Floating Gaia,” with its sheer colors, delicate seascape and abstract figures, seems to be a surreal meditation on the fragility of the natural world".

Judge's Special Recognition, Upstream People Gallery in Omaha, Nebraska

9th Annual Collage, Digital and Mixed Media Exhibition, 2007

Artist CONNIE LIVINGSTON-DUNN of SPRINGFIELD, TENNESSEE has received a Special Recognition Merit Award for her artwork in the "9th Annual Collage, Digital & Mixed Media International Juried Online Art Exhibition” hosted by www.upstreampeoplegallery.com  .
This international exhibition received over 300 entries from around the world and 59 artists were selected by the juror Larry Bradshaw, Professor of Art at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Professor Bradshaw states this about this specially recognized work:
“Connie Livingston-Dunn of Springville, TN has mastered the digital media in the wonderful layering of imagery which is quite successful in her piece “Dreamer”. The fanciful fractalizing overlapping the brain area of the silver-like face portrays the idea well.”
The exhibition will be on display online during June, 2007 at www.upstreampeoplegallery.com and continue for 12 months, closing May 31, 2008.
Further information in the artist’s own words:
"Dreamer" uses pictures I took in Mexico of a sculptural piece and of a doorway in the Feathered Conch Temple at Teotihuacan.  I combined them with fractal images of the Mandelbrot figure and with parts of a sepia photograph from the late 1800's of people climbing the Great Pyramid in Egypt.  "Dreamer" is about altered states of consciousness based on love and dreaming great dreams of unity and peace.
